Good Movies, 2022

My favourite movies released in 2022

What a tepid year for films, with one major exception.

Eleven older movies I watched and loved in 2022

  • Midnight, 1939 ★★★★ I can take or leave most romcoms, but romschemes? There are never enough.
  • Love Is News, 1937 ★★★★ I’ve been completely ruined by modern thinking. She just straight doxes and bullies this much less privileged man for 90 minutes until he agrees to be with her. And it’s so charming? And I want her to?
  • Strange Days, 1995 ★★★★★ Cyberpunk Noir is an S-Tier genre.
  • Vampire’s Kiss, 1988 ★★★★ I adore that most of the production notes are summed up as New York is just sorta like this”
  • Licorice Pizza, 2021 ★★★★★ They just don’t make movies like they did back in the early 2020s.
  • Jojo Rabbit, 2019 ★★★★ I know it’s copyrighted but a pro wrestler should steal Sam Rockwell’s going out in a blaze of glory” outfit.
  • The Hit, 1984 ★★★★ A great addition to both the fallout from off-screen elaborate heist” and road trip where enemies become friends who become enemies who become friends who become enemies” genres.
  • The Card Counter, 2021 ★★★★★ I think I like Paul Schrader movies
  • The Divorcee, 1930 ★★★★ Another one you could run today with new actors but no other changes.
  • Who Killed Teddy Bear? 1965 ★★★★ Justice for the hat pervert.
  • The Stranger by the Shore, 2020 ★★★★ A 60 minute movie? I thought that was illegal.
